Public Transport:

From Melbourne Central Station, take bus 200, 201, 203, or 207 up Lygon Street and get off at Argyle Street (and walk north) or at Lygon/Elgin Streets (and walk south).

From Flinders Street Station take bus 250, 251 or 253 up Rathwowne Street and get off at Rathdowne/Grattan Streets (and walk west).

Or from the CBD take the free Melbourne Tourist Shuttle bus — for example, from stop 4 (corner of Exhibition and Little Collins streets near Parliament train station) and alight at stop 6, very nearby the Carlton office.

Melbourne Bike Share:

If the sun is shining and you're feeling adventurous and have a credit card handy, take a CBD Melbourne Bike Share bike (for example from Parliament) and leave it at either the Lygon St or Faraday St docking stations. If you ride for less than 30 minutes at a time you get multiple trips for less than three dollars in total. Allow a few extra minutes if it's your first time using the service. Bring your own helmet or buy one for $5 at a nearby convenience store.
